Civil Aviation Rules

CAAV operates with the aviation rules defined by the Civil Aviation Authority of New-Zealand.

Legal notices and information bulletins

Legal information bulletins are published by the CAA for information and guidance. They are advisory documents which set out the CAA‘s position on the general interpretation or application of some civil aviation rules.

Petion to change rules

This temporary petition form can be used to raise an issue relating to a rule that has been impacted due to COVID-19, and does not fall into one of the other regulatory relief categories.

Caa Notices

There will be consultation for all new CAA Notices and amendments. See the Rule projects in progress page to find out about upcoming rule projects, which may include CAA Notices.

Emergency Rules

The Director of Civil Aviation is empowered to make emergency rules by the Civil Aviation Act 1990.

An emergency rule is effective for 90 days from the date of publication in the Gazette.

There are no emergency rules in force at present.

Exemptions

A petition for exemption is a request to the Director of Civil Aviation to provide relief from any specified requirement in a Civil Aviation Rule made by the Minister of Transport.

Pending Rules

Pending rules have been signed by the Minister of Transport and will come into force on the prescribed date.
